RENAL STONE IN CHILDREN


A kidney stone is a solid piece of material that forms in the kidney. It may pass out or get stuck while passing out at ureter, bladder or urethra.

❇️ Symptoms of renal stone

🔹 Pain in the side of abdomen

🔹 Blood in urine

🔹 Vomiting 

🔹 Symptoms of urinary tract infection like fever or crying while passing urine

❇️ Diagnosis

      -----------------

🔹 Clinical history and examination

🔹 Ultrasound

🔹 X ray abdomen

🔹 If suspected urine infection... Urine examination

🔹 If suspected renal problem.... Renal function test.

❇️ Can we prevent renal stone?

      ----------------------------------------------

There is no sure way to prevent renal stone, some lifestyle changes may prevent renal stone.

◾ Do's

🔹 Water

▪️ Drinking lot of water will prevent renal stone

▪️ If your urine frequency is less than drink more water.

▪️ Citrus fruit juices increases citrate level which prevent stone formation

🔹 Eat calcium rich food

▪️ Milk and milk products

▪️ Naachani 

🔹 Eat citrus fruits

▪️ Lemon and oranges

▪️ Avoid canned fruit juices

◾ Don't

🔹 Reduce sodium (salt) intake

▪️ Make low salt food at home

▪️ Fast or packed food

▪️ Canned soup or vegetables.

🔹 Eat low oxalate food

▪️  Spinach, Beet, sweet potato, cauliflower

▪️ Chocolate

▪️ Peanuts

▪️ Coffee

▪️Soya products

🔹 Avoid few fruits

▪️ Strawberries

▪️ Grapes

🔹 Eat less animal protein

▪️ Beef, fish

▪️ Pork, poultry

🔹 Medicine

▪️ Antacid

▪️Vitamin C, calcium supplements

❇️ Treatment

 Two types of treatment ...

🔹 Medical treatment 

▪️ Modified life style

▪️Few medicine are available, consult Doctor

▪️Treat urinary infection

🔹 Surgical treatment

▪️ If size more than 12mm

▪️If associated with renal involvement

▪️ If repeated severe abdominal pain
