My baby not passing stool (Below 6 month); Constipation in baby

BABY CONSTIPATION

Baby may pass stool after every feed or sometimes the baby may not pass stool for 7 days also. Both conditions are normal. If the baby is not passing poop but passing gas then don't worry. 

❇️ Shall I worry if the baby is not passing poop?

🔶 Breastfed baby

🔹 Breast milk is perfect and complete milk, so there is little waste product left for baby to poop out. 

🔹 Don't worry if baby is passing soft & yellow color stool. 

🔹 Constipation is rare in breastfed babies. 

🔶 Cow milk 

🔹 Cow's milk is usually associate with hard stool

🔹 Avoid cow's milk till 1 year of age 

🔶 Formula milk 

🔹 If your baby is formula feed, they might pass four times a day or may pass once in 4 days. 

🔹 If baby is not passing stool as per guidelines, change the formula milk. 

❇️ When to consult a pediatrician?

🔹 Hard stool

🔹 Crying during passage of stool. It is normal for babies to cry before passing poop. 

🔹 Blood in stool

🔹 Abdominal distention

🔹 Delayed milestone 

🔹 Redness in diaper area. 

❇️ How can I help my baby to poop? 

🔶 Diet of mother 

Diet of mothers had great impact on baby's poop. 

🔹 Avoid

▪️ Milk or milk products 

▪️ Rawa or maida 

▪️ Packed food items 

🔹 Eat more 

▪️Vegetable 

▪️ Fruits 

▪️ Salad

▪️ Lot of water 

🔶 Exercise 

Exercise tends to stimulate bowel movement. 

🔹 Pressure on abdomen 

Put pressure on abdomen by pressing both leg on abdomen 

🔹 Cycling of both leg

🔶 Warm bath

Warm baths relax all muscles including abdominal muscles thus helping them stop straining. 

🔶 Baby massage 

It stimulates the bowel movement 

🔹 Using thumb to make circular motion around the umbilicus in a clockwise pattern. 

🔹 Stroking downward from the rib cage by using the edge of the finger. 

🔶  Rectal stimulation 

If the baby is uncomfortable and  has abdominal distention due to constipation.... 

🔹 Stimulate rectum by using tip of the pan

🔹 Take rectal temperature by using thermometer 

❇️ Medical treatment

🔹 There is no treatment if baby is not having any discomfort. 

🔹 If baby is discomfort, consult pediatrician.
