The most awaited in 2020 was Covid vaccines. Unfortunately, there had been a lot of misinformation spread against the vaccine and it's development. I wrote this blog to separate myth from facts.This blog also covers various frequently asked questions regarding COVID vaccines.
π΅ What are the types of COVID vaccines available in India?
There are two types of vaccines available in India, Pfizer vaccines will be launched by March as per company authority (No official statement).
πΈ Covishield by Serum Institute of India.
πΈ Covaxine by Bharat Biotech.
Remember... Prevention is better than cure so take vaccines including Covid vaccine
π΅ How many doses are given?
πΈ Two doses are given, 28 days apart.
πΈ Don't interchange brand during vaccination.
Eg: If you had taken Covishield as a first dose then don't take Covaxine as a 2nd dose.
π΅ How Covid vaccine work?
All vaccines including Covid vaccine work on the same principle....
πΈ When you take vaccine, body develop antibody against that particular disease.
πΈ When real virus enter your body, the antibody develop due to vaccines will kill virus thus not only protect you but it also decreases spread of the virus.
π΅ What are the Side effects?
Everyone wants to protect themselves from deadly corona infection, but they also fear possible side effects of vaccines (mostly rumors spread on social media.
All vaccines including BCG, DPT (using from the last 50 year) got side effects thus covid vaccines. The benefits of vaccines are much more compared to side effects thus it is advisable to take COVID vaccine.

πΈ Redness at the site of injection
πΈ Pain at the site of injection
πΈFever, bodyache, weakness in first 3 day
◾ Rare serious side-effects
πΈAllergic shock which can happen with any established vaccines or injectable Antibiotics.
Remember.... Stay at the hospital premise for at least 15 minutes after any vaccination or injection including Corona vaccine.
π΅ Can vaccines cause long term side effects?
πΈ Maximum vaccines never cause long term side effects thus Covid vaccine
πΈ If you don't have side effects immediately then be sure that it will be safe down the road.
π΅ To whom shall we vaccinate?
There is not enough data regarding corona vaccines. As there is lack of information on rare serious side effects So decision regarding criteria for beneficiaries will be decided in future as more & more studies will be published. These are the criteria followed by maximum countries across the world.
◾ High risk group
These groups should be given Covid vaccines as soon as possible....
πΈ Health care workers and their families.
πΈ Older age group particularly above 50 year of age.
πΈ In younger age group, people with co-morbid condition like Diabetes, hypertension or any chronic clinical diseases are at higher risk compare to other people with no comorbid condition.
◾ Low risk group
These groups should be given once high risk is covered.
πΈ People with no Comorbid condition between 25 to 50 year of age.
πΈ Age less than 25 year and children, their risk of dying from covid infection is close to zero, so they be vaccinated at the end.
π΅ Can a covid vaccine make me sick with covid 19 infection?
All covid vaccines are dead vaccines which means that it does not contain live virus thus it cannot make you sick with covid infection.
π΅ If I had covid infection in the past, still I need to get vaccinated?
Answer is Yes as reinfection is possible with deadly corona virus.
π΅ Can a person presently having Covid infection (suspected person or comfirm) be vaccinated?
πΈ No studies is available weather vaccines should be given to positive confirmed case, it is better to avoid till 4 week after confirmation of Covid infection.
πΈ Suspected cases should avoid vaccinations till 2 week as they can have positive report later and they can spread virus during vaccination.
π΅ Out of two vaccines, which one should I take?
πΈ More studies needed to understand long term efficacy and protectivity.
πΈ As per safety and short term protectivity is concerned, both are equally good as Licence is granted by Drug regulator of our country.
π΅ Are you immune to Covid infection after completion of vaccinations?
No vaccines assure you 100% protection against disease thus Covid vaccine. So a small number of people might still get COVID infection after 2 doses of Covid vaccine.
π΅ How long Covid vaccine provide protection?
πΈ We need longer studies to answer this question.
πΈ The answer doesn't depend only on how vaccine perform; it also depends on how virus mutate in future.
In short... Only time can answer maximum questions regarding long term efficacy
π΅ Can I get COVID vaccine if I had a history of allergic reaction?
πΈ You can take vaccine at big institute but need to monitor for at least half an hour after vaccination at proper setup.
πΈ If you had severe allergic reaction to first dose, it is advisable to avoid 2nd dose. Chances of severe allergic reaction is very very rare.
π΅ Can children be vaccinated?
πΈ There are no COVID vaccine for children below 16 year of age.
πΈ Several companies started enrolling children between 12 to 16 year for clinical trials.
πΈ Clinical trials for children below 12 year will begin soon.
π΅ Do people with suppressed immunity shouldn't take vaccines?
πΈ Covid vaccine is dead vaccines so everyone including people with suppressed immunity or underlying diseases like Diabetes can take vaccines.
π΅ I don't need vaccines as there is no risk of death in my age group.
πΈ Below 25 year, chances of mortality is very low still it cannot be assured.
πΈ Regardless of risk, you can still contract infection and spread it to others including your parents.
π΅ What are the common myths on social media?
πΈ If you take vaccine, it will make you infertile.
πΈ Vaccines will alter your DNA.
πΈ Once I get vaccinated, I don't have to wear mask or practice social distancing.
πΈ The Covid vaccine is unsafe as it was develop quickly.
πΈ If I receive the Covid vaccine, Iam greater risk of getting other viral infection.
πΈ The Covid vaccine includes tracking device.
Remember... Myth is nothing more than a gossip.
