🔴 My child is not willing to stop breastfeeding?
🔹 The best time to stop breastfeeding, once your child is 18 month old.
🔹Lot of mothers struggle with weaning off breastfeeding and continue to breastfeed the baby till 3 year of age.
❇️ Why do parents struggle with weaning off breastfeeding?
🔹 Baby cries a lot
🔹 Family members insist to continue
🔹 Refusal of baby to eat
🔹 Breast engorgement
❇️ How to stop breastfeeding?
There are two ways of stopping breastfeeding....
🔳 Gradually
🔹 If you had following principles of weaning, it is easier to stop breastfeeding gradually
🔹 Skip 25% of breastfeeding time for 5 days.
Example: If you are feeding 4 times in a day, skip 1 time. If you are feeding early morning, afternoon, before sleep and midnight, skip afternoon feed.
🔹 After 5 days, skip 1 more time like midnight feed. It is better to avoid top milk till this time.
🔹 After 5 days, skip early morning feed & start top milk
🔹 Lastly skip breastfeed before bedtime and start top milk
In short... Anything that happens gradually is always irrevocable
🔳 Abruptly
🔹 This technique is useful if your baby is not willing to stop breastfeeding
🔹 Let the baby cry for a few days. During this period, take care of babies like feeding top milk, diverting attention and spending quality time.
🔹 Make sure that all family members are involved during baby's crying episode.
In short... The right decisions are always hardest to make.
❇️ My family insist to continue breastfeeding
🔹 You can continue breastfeeding till 2 year of age
🔹 During this period, try to convince your family members.
In short... Just keep trying, it's all you can do
❇️ Breast engorgement

🔹 Commonly occurs in early period of baby's life and stopping of breastfeeding
🔹 If breastfeeding is stop in spite of good milk production than breast get full , becomes hard and painful
🔹 Engorgement is usually temporary - eventually mother stop producing breast milk in 7 to 10 days
🔹 How to ease engorgement
▪️ Fitting bra that doesn't restrict breast
▪️ Hot fomentation
▪️Always consult Dr for complications or any other cause and medicine
▪️ Don't restart breastfeeding
In short... If you want best result, follow instructions along with medicine
❇️ Refusal to eat

🔹 As soon as breastfeeding is stopped, some baby become cranky and refused to eat anything.
🔹 Wait for 24 to 36 hour and monitor the baby urine and activity.
🔹 If baby urine and activity is decreasing, it is advisable to restart breastfeeding for 1 month.
In short... Don't be in hurry or don't be too late to restart breastfeeding
